pCloud is one of the few cloud storage providers that offers a lifetime plan — pay once, use forever. No monthly fees, no annual renewals. For heavy users, that’s potentially hundreds of dollars saved over the years.

What pCloud does well
The lifetime plan is genuinely lifetime. Some “lifetime” deals have fine print — pCloud’s doesn’t. You get the storage, the features, and basic support for the life of your account. Transfer the plan to a family member if you stop using it.
Fast sync and file access. pCloud’s desktop client is faster than Google Drive and Dropbox for initial syncs. The web interface is clean and responsive. Mobile apps work well.
Client-side encryption option. For an extra one-time fee (pCloud Crypto ~$125 lifetime), you get client-side encryption — files are encrypted before leaving your device. This is a real privacy advantage over Google Drive and Dropbox, which don’t offer this at any price.
File versioning and trash. 30 days of version history and trash retention on the free tier, 365 days on paid plans. Accidentally delete something? You can recover it.
European hosting. pCloud is Swiss-based, hosting files in the EU (Luxembourg and Dallas, Texas). For European users, this means GDPR compliance and data residency options.
What pCloud doesn’t do well
No built-in document editing. Google Drive has Docs. Dropbox has Paper. pCloud is just storage. You download, edit, and re-upload.
File size limit (free tier). Free accounts can’t upload files over 5GB. Paid accounts remove this limit.
pCloud Crypto is a paid add-on. Client-side encryption costs extra. Most competitors that offer E2EE (Proton Drive, Tresorit) include it in the base price.
The brand isn’t as well-known. For collaboration, most people will default to Google Drive or Dropbox links.
